Story
- The party ascends the Katakoro mountains to find the ancient Titan temple containing the Ship of the Gods, which still lies protected beyond the Void Barrier.
- At the summit, they call to the Goddess, but their calls go unanswered. Instead, Midnight appears.
- She explains that the Goddess is not some concrete form, some female human or elf that can be experienced by man. She is, as much to the mighty as to the meek, an eternal mystery.
"All things die, in time. Death is not the end, but it is a change...a change more profound than all the great concerns of our lives."
- She explains that the beings who created the void barrier no longer literally exist. The nature of change and perspective means that even gods cannot entirely recall the mysteries of the past. She contrasts this with the knowledge-seeking Preservers, who, despite a crystal-clear recollection of so much information, still fell into the same traps again and again.
- She reveals that the Titans did not truly die, but evolved...into humans.
- The Titans, she explained, were lovers of the stars, ever seeking the mysteries of the cosmos. The Preservers failed to identify the kindred spirits they had found.
- "We seek answers...but it is not the answers which enlighten us, but the quest to find them."
- "Twilight will come. And many of us will pass. It is right. This is how it has been done since the beginning."
- With that, Midnight dispels the Void Barrier, and seems to disappear from the world.
